When I bought my house in 2002, it was equipped with a salt-based water softener—I quickly realized that it was discharging hundreds of liters of water into the sewer every week! So I disconnected it.
Of course, I started having problems related to limescale… among other things, the internal pipes in my boiler were completely clogged!
Luckily, in 2015 I was able to take advantage of CO2 technology, which is just as effective but doesn’t produce those unwanted discharges into the sewer system. Plus, calcium remains present (in a different chemical form) in the tap water we drink—>, which is good for the body :). And the CO2 for a year costs me barely the equivalent of two “SodaStream” refills…
And there are even more little perks—for example, I spotted a major water leak thanks to the Hydrokube module’s display, which shows daily consumption… 150 liters already “consumed” even though I just woke up and no one has taken a shower yet… That’s not normal! With Hydrobru’s “official” meter, I wouldn’t have noticed the leak until I received my annual bill…

We are a family of five. So far, I’m very satisfied with it. In our case, there are many positive examples of the difference between before and after. Before installation, the aerators on our faucets would quickly fill with limescale flakes, forcing me to descale them regularly. Since the installation, there are no more limescale flakes in the aerators. The same goes for the stainless steel surfaces in the kitchen and bathroom—there’s much less residue. The same applies to the electric kettle, etc. The before-and-after difference has been very noticeable in our case. I want to emphasize the importance of proper setup during installation.
Plus, we drink this water every day. A big advantage is that the water tastes good, unlike systems that use salt tablets.
Once the system is installed and properly set up, you can just forget about it—it’s that simple. Just be sure to check the CO2 cylinder pressure after about 6 months to 1 year. The included user manual is clear.
