Lorsque j’ai acheté ma maison en 2002, elle était équipée d’un adoucisseur au sel – je me suis vite rendu compte que celui-ci rejetait des centaines de litres d’eau à l’égout chaque semaine ! Je l’ai donc débranché.
Evidemment, j’ai commencé à avoir des problèmes liés au calcaire… entre autres, tuyauterie interne de ma chaudière complètement bouchée !
Par chance j’ai pu bénéficier en 2015 de la technologie au CO2 qui est aussi efficace mais ne génère pas ces rejets intempestifs à l’égout. De plus, le calcium reste présent (sous une autre forme chimique) dans l’eau du robinet que nous buvons –> bon pour le corps :). Et puis le CO2 pour une année me coûte à peine l’équivalent de deux recharges “SodaStream”…
Et il y a encore des petits avantages – j’ai par exemple identifié une fuite d’eau importante grâce à l’écran du module Hydrokube qui affiche la consommation quotidienne … 150 litres déjà “consommés” alors que je me lève et que personne n’a encore pris de douche… pas normal ! Avec le compteur ‘officiel’ de hydrobru j’aurais constaté la fuite en recevant ma facture annuelle…

What’s more, we drink this water every day. The big advantage is that, unlike systems with salt tablets, the water retains a good taste.
Once the system is installed and properly set up, you forget about it, and that’s all there is to it. Just check the CO2 cylinder pressure after 6 months to 1 year. The instructions supplied are clear.

How can CO2 help fight limescale?
CO2 gas (carbon dioxide) exists naturally: for example, it is naturally present in sparkling water. The Hydrokube water softener injects it into your water circuit and pipes, dissolving limescale and transforming it into calcium bicarbonate, perfectly soluble in water. Calcium bicarbonate is used in food as an acidity regulator and stabilizer, and in medicine to regulate heart pressure.
Is it effective against limescale deposits on sanitaryware?
Thanks to this C02water softener, your faucet’s aerator won’t get clogged, and your toilet valve, hot water tank, etc. won’t scale up. You’ll still have residues other than limescale, such as soap deposits and calcium bicarbonate (a fine white powder that can be removed with a damp cloth/sponge). Of course, there will always be a standard cleaning of the sanitary facilities.
Installing the Hydrokube CO2 water softener
We have a network of dealers all over Belgium to take care ofinstallation. What’s more, the Hydrokube CO2 water softener can easily be installed by a a good handyman.
If your home is more than 10 years old, we recommend that you go through a Hydrokube-approved professional: the 6% VAT avoids a large part of the cost of standard installation (from €186 to €239).
Do I need to have a particular pipe configuration in the house?
There’s no need for a bypass or sewer. A nearby power outlet (approx. 1 m) is required, and we recommend installing a water pressure regulator. Installation requires no special configuration, and we’ve never encountered any configuration problems.
Are there any costs other than changing the CO2 cylinder?
With our CO2 softener, there are no maintenance costs and no wasted water because there’s no sewer connection. Consumption is negligible, well below 0.1 kWh per 100 m3 of water consumed, or less than 1 EUR.
What is the CO2 consumption?
You need to change the 10kg bottle of CO2 every 100 m3 of water (depending on the hardness of your water):
- The dial on the cylinder regulator indicates the minimum pressure threshold.
- The Hydrokube Comfort’s digital display shows the number of CO2 units used and the total volume of water consumed.
Does it work for my whole house?
In some appliances, when the water is heated very high and left in the open air for a certain length of time, some of the CO2 evaporates and the limescale forms a thin film: this happens in electric kettles. In some long-cycle household dishwashers, a 3-in-1 tablet is all you need to avoid it.
Does this work if I have low water pressure?
Treatment requires at least 2 bars of dynamic water pressure at the entrance to the home after the water meter. The water distributor guarantees a static pressure of between 2 and 10 bar at the meter (excluding gaps and isolated cases). The probability of not having enough water pressure for treatment is therefore practically zero.
